Recent Events

June 2002

June 1 - Search cancelled

                -Missing 14 year old male, distraught,

                -RCMP pre-warning of search, subject walked out at 15:20 hrs. No search initiated.

June 7 - Regular Meeting and Training

-Recent Events and Issues,

-Exercise – Head and knee injury, Mowatt Bay,

-Practice call-out, radio operations, patient management, first aid, packaging and stretcher operations.

July 2002

July 1-2 – Search

-July 1st, 16.00 hrs, 14 year old male,

-boating incident at Rainbow narrows, Powell Lake.

-pleasure craft striking a two man paddle boat.

-28 members responded.

-Shoreline searches in conjunction with Fishery’s Vessel.

-Air search patterns with RCMP and 442 Comox Helicopters.

-Combined searches with Coast Guard and private vessels.

-July 2nd, 10:00 hrs Rainbow narrows, Powell Lake.,

-Continued shoreline searches with Coast Guard.

-Air search patterns with RCMP Helicopter.

-Assisted divers by securing narrows for search patterns.

-July 3nd, Subject found by RCMP Dive Team,

-200 yards from contact point, Rainbow narrows, Powell Lake.

-204.2 searcher hours.

August 2002

                -No callouts

** Current Events **

Flat Tubular Strapping

A roll of the flat tubular strapping is available. Members have the opportunity to purchase a 30 foot length for themselves. This has a wide range of uses, and can be used for stretcher tie-ins. The cost is $12.00 even for the 30 foot length.

PRSAR Website

Work still continues on building our website. Please pass any photos you have of PRSAR members training, and StraitTalk Computing will scan them, then return them.

When we have a working site that will still be 'under construction', we will publish the link.

Rope Team Training on Van Is.

There will be an evaluation session on Vancouver Island on the weekend of Sept 21-22/02. This evaluation session is for trained Rope Team members that are seeking Rope Team Member or Rope Team Leader certification. Rope Team members will be practicing on the regular training night of Sept 17th, and there will be a special training session with Van couver Island Rope Team Instructors, on Sept 14 or 15/02. PRSAR Rope Team Members able to attend, and PRSAR members interested in joining the rope team, contact Doug Logan at 604-485-4834.

This newsletter will be issued once a month, except for July. The monthly issue will be sent out in the morning of the Friday before our regular meeting night. Therefore, contributions must be sent in by midnight, the Wednesday night before the meeting.

 In order for this to work, everyone needs to be involved, and contribute. Contributions are not limited to PowellRiverSAR members. The more we communicate, the more we learn, the more effective SAR people we become.
